Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

David Copperfield, but make it Appalachia. A boy born in a trailer to a teenage mom makes his way through foster care and the opioid crisis. It won the Pulitzer, and you will cry, so plan accordingly.

The take: The best book I've read in my whole life. I think about it almost weekly. Whenever I'm asked to recommend a book, it's always Demon Copperhead. Absolutely the opposite of light reading, though, so fair warning that it's dark.
